After an eventful Tuesday afternoon, it was business as usual on the Wednesday. The volunteers met at the carpool and off to the project site we went. On Wednesdays there were normally less kids and volunteers due to sport activities and other stuff.
I remember going up the stairs and as I took the turn it felt like someone was behind me. Eyes closed for a second, reality check…you are fine…let’s continue with the show! It happened about twice that day. I was very hard on myself, weakness were not tolerated…I had work to do, a world to change and people to protect…let’s carry on…
It was just before 4 O’clock, when one of the boys came to tell me that Charles was on his way. “Let him come…I’m. I was upstairs and as I looked through the window, there he was…this little 14year old boy. I went down to greet him. Now you might wonder what security things I put in place for this greeting, remember…he was adamant to kill me the day before.
When I saw Charles, I only saw a little scared boy, confused and hurt. “Hi, Charles!! How are you doing?” We had a very normal friendly conversation as if nothing ever happened. There was no murder in his eyes that afternoon. I realized that he came by to look me in the eye, and say sorry. He never said those words, but he was harmless. You see, Charles was also just a victim of a society of fatherless children turning to drugs. I also realized how real the spiritual world is. He was overtaken by some demonic spirit the day before and if not for the other boy that jumped him, he would have killed me…

Although my dad was also never there, I thank God for an award winning mother. People always knock on our door for food, clothes and money. Most of the time it is people we know but now and then it is a stranger. However, my mother always treat people the same. So, this one day, a lady came looking for clothes and my mother being my mother left her alone in the one
room looking for more stuff in our house to give to her. Well, the lady cashed in on her time alone and left with more than what she was given.
My mother called me, she was very upset, or should I say that she was disappointed and she felt hurt. Nevertheless, she told me that I should not tell the other people at our house because if someone knock on our door again she wants us to treat them like this incident never happened. She just called me to process the situation. What a legend!! And up to this day, she invites people in to our home!! Fortunately, for me, she learned not to give away my clothes without my permission! I am not as giving as she is…
People do us wrong, some try to kill us, sometimes in the flesh and other times through words. Others invade our privacy, steal from us and do us harm, emotionally and physically…. we live in a crime heightened country where trusting people and especially strangers have become almost impossible. Loving people has become even more of a challenge and a sacrifice…
Matthew 5:9, Blessed are the peacemaker, for they shall be called sons of God.
Romans 12:18, If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
