Ten years ago in 2004 I embarked on a journey with the Lord. It was the beginning of many mission trips with the Every Nation Church Family. That year we started with our very first Winter School Outreach to Jamestown. A bunch of university students went to live for 10 days in one of the local schools in Stellenbosch. We slept on the floor in the school library and I can still remember how cold it was and all the little challenges like safety, cooking facilities and cold water bathing. We assisted Grade 12 learners with their preparation for the end exams. Many learners got saved and inspired to trust God for the dreams in their heart. It was such an amazing time!!!
While I was on the Jamestown mission, the Lord spoke to me about going on an international mission. Now, I grew up very fortunate to be able to hear the voice of the Lord from a very young age. I also learned that when the Lord speaks you respond!! So, about three days after the Jamestown Outreach ended, I went to get my passport!! All you need is a bible and I passport!! Or so I was taught…
I was faced with a challenge… “You hardly get away without a proper challenge and character testing”….just learn to embrace it J!! It is part of the fun and the testimony at the end.
I had to buy a new text book for the second semester. I had money to buy the text book but now I also needed to get a passport, in faith for an international mission coming up soon. I had to make a decision. Being convinced that I heard from the Lord, I decided to respond in faith to the word I got. So passport before the text book it was.
I still needed the text book! An option of copying the text book was presented but I felt convicted that, that would just be wrong. It’s like stealing, no matter how I want to justify it. Trying to figure out what to do, I heard the Lord say “ One day you will be writing books and if you start to copy books you will be sowing really bad seeds.” Okay, Lord, - we don’t do the copy thing!!
Two days day back from holiday and I got an invite from my lecture to meet her in her office. She gave me a new text book!! “I had an extra book and I thought I would give it to you.” I have never really spoken to that lecturer before and believe me I do not look like a poor student, just saying!!
Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”
Lesson learned… God provides fully. You do not need to compromise!!
An opportunity to go to Zambia at the end of that year presented itself!! Whoop Whoop - I had a passport.
To top it all. Weeks before the mission I got a call from someone asking me if they should deposit money into my bank account or send me a check. I gave them my back account number and they deposited R5 000 into my bank account. I don’t know who called me, I never spoke to that person again….
Thank you Jesus!! I had a passport, a textbook and money to go to Zambia!!
And so, ten years ago my mission journey with the Lord started…
Since 2004 I have been on:

Respond to Gods Word in faith – James 1: 22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive
yourselves. Do what it says.” Take hold of the promises of God.
Step out in faith and Go!! Even if it is just down the street. – Matthew 28: 19 “Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations…”
Not all of us have the time to go on structured mission trips but you can still partner with those who are going. By you partnering in faith, in prayer and financially, you are also going. At the moment I do not get to go physically myself but I go in faith, prayer and finances.
Here are a few opportunities for you to Go!!

There is also a team of about 11 going to Mozambique on the 8th of July 2014. You can contact Ashleigh Tunmer if you want to partner with that mission. [email protected]
